IGEL Leads the Next Gen Edge OS Evolution
Recently, I had the pleasure to have a very engaging conversation with Alexander Arvidsson and Simon Binder from the Knee-Deep in Tech Podcast. In just a brief session, we somehow managed to chart the evolution of end user computing from the early days of central data storage, mainframes and ‘dumb’ terminals to the advent of distributed computing to where we are today: end users wanting a consistent experience on any device and expecting any and all applications to be accessible from the cloud.
Interestingly, IGEL has been both a participant in, and driver of this evolutionary path. We started with hardware when desktops were traditionally static, and the cloud was more concept than execution. Now we are a software-centric company right in the middle of the virtualization movement as applications continue to move to the cloud.
IGEL’s next gen Linux-driven edge OS is our current solution for users who want to easily onboard any device and access cloud applications, without tedious interim steps. As I mention in the podcast, “people want to consume technology but not play around with it.” IGEL automatically configures these virtual desktops, providing the ideal user experience. We are driving this edge advancement in the global marketplace.
In this realm of delivering the best user experience, an exciting new development is IGEL’s announcement that our Linux-driven edge OS supports Microsoft Windows Virtual Desktop (WVD). IGEL OS is ideally suited to be the edge OS for environments accessing Windows through a centrally managed data center or cloud deployment. And since WVD is built for scale, pairing it with IGEL’s Universal Management Suite will enable efficient management of thousands of WVD deployments.
The world is evolving to one in which people want services instead of running their own architecture. Partnerships like IGEL’s support of WVD is where the future is heading. Users want anywhere, anytime access to their applications, and ‘they don’t want to play around!”
Join us at Disrupt in Nashville, January 27-29 and let’s start the next evolution!
